Basoeki Abdullah- “My Fair Lady” and “Mother and Kid”

A master of realism, Basoeki Abdullah brings his horses to life in his paintings. Horses are visually powerful animals that symbolize nature at its most magnificent with its speed, virility and nobility.

The horse has a special seat in history, often prized and revered by various cultures. Horses are by far one of the most important animals that have contributed to the development of human civilization.

The independent free spirit of the horse is captured in “My Fair Lady” in full gallop through a misty setting. The raw power the horse’s musculature and the atmospheric rendering of the action make this awe-inspiring work by the late master. There is a dream–like quality to “My Fair Lady” and the horses seemed mythical in depiction with a otherworldly spectral of slender maiden in their midst.

My Fair Lady

In comparison, “Mother and Kid” is a touching representation of a mare and her baby at ease in nature. Traditionally,”Mother and Kid” painting celebrate the bond of the maternal figure to her offspring, and here we see a powerful maternal figure seemingly preparing her child for its new adventure in the big wide world as represented by the spacious plains and the mountain scenery.

Ye Yongqing - Mix Media Work

Hello all and a happy Saturday. This is a continuation of yesterday's post and am glad to say I've kept one more promise to write today. So I'll start writing now as I really have to go to the mall to get Ray and Roy (my twin children) some rab clothing as they are having a camp out tonight

This mix media work by Ye Yongqing was previously part of a set of installation mix-media works entitled “9 birdcages in winter”. “9 birdcages in winter” first made their debut at the 1st Shanghai Biennale and were considered an important milestone of Ye Yongqing’s creative processes. In them, the Chinese art critic, Li Xianting felt that Ye “has put fragments of his different temporal life experiences together on a single surface, evoking that state between dreaming and waking”.

In the 1990s back from his travels from USA and Europe, Ye started creating paintings inspired by images of daily life like bird cages, automobiles, vintage photographs and caricatures. To him these paintings filled with graffiti like scribbles, were like a blog, a record of his random thoughts and expression independent of regionalism. Yet his mix media works with the bird cage as a theme seemed to show that the artist felt restraint. The birdcage traditionally symbolizes the loss of freedom, that of the bird. A man- made device to trap and contain nature, or in this case, a free spirit.

Yong Qing’s enduring artistic endeavor is to move beyond his cultural, physical and mental confines, be they real or self imposed. As an artist, he has learned to change and adapt beyond his own boundaries and across borders.

The Cave by Marko Stout

Looking at this painting, you might have thought that it's the work of famous painters like Gustav Klimt, Georgia O’Keeffe or even Wassily Kandinsky. But actually the paintings that I'm sharing today are the work of a “live and kicking” contemporary New York City artist name Marko Stout. I‘ve decided to feature him here in my post today as he will be having an exhibition call “The Cave” which is scheduled to open in New York City in the autumn of 2011.

The painter that painted the above paintings is not just gifted and blessed with great painting talent but he also holds a degree in medicine, metaphysics and biology. Now let me introduce you to the man behind the painting. He is none other then a man name Marko Stout or better known as Dr. Stout.

After completing his education in New York City, Dr Stout spent much time living abroad in a houseboat in Sausalito and sailing the San Francisco Bay. Dr Stout paintings are abstract and seems to be forcing his paintings to be observed beyond the subject and added with his outsider “art brut” ways which eventually lead his paintings to be viewed in a rather spiritual experience of human anatomy with psychological and mythical archetypes

Dr. Marko uses vibrant colors to reveal and indicate excitement, passion, love, desire and strength in  his paintings. It is also used to stir intense and passionate emotions to his subjects, He uses black to show sexuality, mystery, fear, evil, unhappiness, restlessness, remorse, anger, loneliness and of course death.

Here's more of his paintings..

PS : “Boy” if only I’m so lucky and able to visit his exhibition ,
